On the back of the announcement that Lucas Cook will inherit the No.21 guernsey next year - worn with distinction at the club by 1946 Brownlow Medallist Don Cordner and the club’s first ever draft pick Steven Febey - Melbourne has released its first installment of jumper numbers for 2011.
But Melbourne’s entire list of guernsey numbers will be released in due course, once next Tuesday’s NAB AFL Rookie Draft has been completed. The club will add a further six players from that meeting.
Bennell takes over No.7 from former Demon Brad Miller, who finished with the club at the end of the 2010 season.
The versatile smallman is the only listed player from 2010 to change numbers for next season.
High-flying Tasmanian Jeremy Howe has gained No.38, previously worn by Danny Hughes.
Defender Troy Davis will wear No.41 in 2011, after it was not used this year. It was last worn by Rohan Bail, who switched from No.41 in 2009 to No.44 this year.
Ruckman/forward Tom McDonald has now taken over No.43, now Bennell has switched to No.7.
