IN HIS THIRD season for the Demons, Ed Langdon patrolled the wing once again to earn a top-10 finish in the club’s Best and Fairest.

The 26-year-old played 23 of the club’s 24 games this year, having missed just two matches since crossing over from Fremantle at the end of 2019.

The numbers

Langdon has become renowned for his elite endurance, coming off the field in just three of his 23 matches throughout the season.

TOG: 100% in 20 of 23 games

Disposals: 21.4 per game

Kilometres covered: 16km per game (barring Round 10 where he was concussed)

Uncontested possessions: 14.7 per game

Uncontested marks: 4.1 per game

Inside 50s: 2.8 per game

Rebound 50s: 2.3 per game

A highlight

The midfielder kicked 13 goals for the year, including two in the Demons’ Semi-Final, but it was his second major of 2022 that shone brightest.

In the last quarter of Melbourne’s Round 3 clash with the Bombers, Langdon threw boot to ball, floating through a seemingly impossible banana from the boundary.

The reaction said it all, as this stunner was voted goal of the week.

Best outing

Round 8 was not only Ed Langdon’s top performance for 2022, but it may have been the best of his 132 AFL games.

The wingman racked up a career-high 39 disposals against the Saints, earning him two Brownlow votes in Melbourne’s 38-point win.

A quote

Langdon on playing alongside the likes of Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca and Jack Viney:

“I probably get the best seat in the house to watch them go about it. It’s pretty special – they’re incredible players and if I can help them in any way, shape or form, then I will.”

Simon Goodwin on Langdon’s role execution:

“Ed’s a very disciplined player. He plays the same way every week and some days he gets reward. He’s just an outstanding contributor to our side and he does it week in, week out.”

Something social

Without his buy-in, Langdon’s social presence has grown in recent times.

This is mainly due to Angus Brayshaw and Max Gawn’s efforts to build his brand on the Gus and Gawny podcast.

So, when the three boys united for a photo on the bus after a big Round 23 victory at The GABBA, social media went into meltdown.
