LAST TIME WE MET:  Round 5, S6 | Melbourne v Gold Coast SUNS | Casey Fields
It was a close encounter when these two teams last met. The Suns travelled to Casey Fields to face the Demons and came out of the gates strong in the contest. Despite the away side applying the high pressure early, it was the Dees who proved impressive.

The work of Melbourne's defensive unit won out, repelling repeated entries from the Suns, threatening to snatch the win early in the second half. Small defender Shelley Heath was instrumental down back, while Tayla Harris was ominous up forward, kicking two majors.

When the final siren sounded, the Demons proved strongest, defeating the Suns at 5.8 (38) to 4.2 (26).

PLAYER TO WATCH: Melbourne
Alyssa Bannan
This speedy forward is renowned for her sleek skills inside 50 and her knowledge of play, making her dangerous around goals.

The 20-year-old is coming off the back of a three-goal performance last week and will be looking to hit the scoreboard again on Saturday night.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Gold Coast Suns
Charlie Rowbottom
The 19-year-old was taken with pick No.1 in the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft and rightly so. Rowbottom has been quick to make an impact within the league and is averaging 21.9 disposals a game this season.

She is currently ranked 4th in the AFLW Champion Player of the Year Award and has shown that she can match it with some of the best midfielders in the competition. This weekend, Rowbottom will be looking to have another strong game against the Demons coming off the back of a damaging game against Richmond last week in which she registered 22 disposals and five tackles.

SEASON SEVEN | PRIDE ROUND

Melbourne has launched its 2022 Pride guernsey, in celebration and support of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The Demons will wear the specially designed jumper when they meet the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday night during Season 7’s AFLW Pride Round.

Designed by Alejandro Stephens, a member of Pride supporter group the Ruby Demons, the guernsey is one of celebration, community and coming together.

With the Pride flag’s six-colour palette at its core, shades of red, orange, yellow, green, indigo and violet make up Melbourne’s traditional ‘V’, complemented by the club’s royal blue at the base.

The design is extended onto the back of the guernsey, where light blue, pink and white are joined with brown and black to represent the transgender community and people of colour respectively.

Together, these colours reflect the Progress Pride Flag, which celebrates diversity and encourages inclusivity within the community.
