MELBOURNE will once again be without Maddi Gay for its Round 8 match against the Gold Coast Suns, with the club's AFLW High Performance Manager Sam Batterton confirming the news on Wednesday morning.
Gay was a late out ahead of last week's Sunday match, with the Demon suffering a low-grade hamstring strain at training.
"Maddi unfortunately won't play this weekend but is doing everything she can to be available in the coming weeks," Batterton told Melbourne Media.
Lauren Pearce was the sole casualty following the Dees' Round 8 win after she suffered a nasty head knock during the second quarter.
"Loz sustained a concussion on Sunday and will subsequently miss this week's match against the Suns while she remains in concussion protocols," Batterton said.
In other news, Jordan Ivey (foot) and Georgia Gall (foot) have both continued to make strides in their respective rehab programs.
“Jordi has made good progress this week after a brief off-load to let her foot settle,” Batterton said.
“While Georgia has also progressed well over the last few sessions, currently completing the majority of the group's training load. She'll hopefully be playing football very soon.”
Eliza McNamara (back) has taken positive steps forward in her rehab, after ticking off her first run back on Tuesday night.
"Lizey completed her first run on Tuesday this week, which was a wonderful milestone after a very serious injury," Batterton said.
"Her approach to the rehab program has been incredible and her team first attitude has been a massive asset to the group."
There have been some positive signs in the long-term rehab group as well, with Gabby Colvin (ACL) and Rhi Watt (ACL) beginning some low-level skills work with the main group.
