MELBOURNE wingman James Jordon has been struck down on the eve of the finals series, suffering a foot injury in recent weeks.
Jordon, who was the club’s medical sub in Round 23, had his foot stood on against Brisbane in the VFL that weekend, and after initially being cleared of any damage, he pulled up sore from training last Thursday.
Further scans showed he had fractured a bone in his foot, and as a result, he went in for surgery on Tuesday morning to give himself the best chance of returning this season.
In positive news, Christian Salem will be available for selection come Friday night’s Qualifying Final.
The defender had groin soreness in the lead up to Melbourne’s last game of the home and away season, but he has trained fully this week and will be unrestricted heading into the clash with Sydney.
Tom McDonald proved to be another good news story this week, returning to action via the VFL last Saturday.
This hit-out was the key forward’s first since Round 10 and he was able to play four quarters without restriction, making him available for selection going forward.
Fraser Rosman also played in Casey’s Qualifying Final victory, having an immediate impact after recovering from a hamstring injury.
Judd McVee was a late withdraw from that match after rolling his ankle at training late last week, but he has since trained fully and will be fit for the VFL Preliminary Final next weekend.
Andy Moniz-Wakefield (groin) is hoping to be available for that game as well, making progress in his rehab program in recent weeks.
Unfortunately, Taj Woewodin suffered a concussion in the last quarter at Casey Fields on Saturday, meaning he will miss a week of action under the concussion protocols.
And despite some murmurs in the media earlier in the week, Christian Petracca trained fully on Tuesday and will be available to play his 150th match on Friday.
