WITH live trading set to transform the 2018 AFL National Draft, Melbourne’s selections are yet to be confirmed.
As it stands, the Demons hold picks 23, 28, 54, 62 and 91, but for the first time in AFL history, all clubs have an ability to advance up the draft order.
This year’s draft will take place at Marvel Stadium over two days, with the first-round broadcasted in prime-time on Thursday night.
If Melbourne elects not to live-trade its picks during the first-round, it will be forced to wait until Friday to secure its new recruits.
But with academy players and father-son selections available for multiple clubs, the Demons pick numbers will likely be pushed back as the draft unfolds.
The second-round will commence at midday on Friday, from which point the remaining nominees will be selected.
When the moment comes for each club to draft a player, there will be a five-minute time slot allocated for decision making – increased from two minutes in previous years.
Throughout the first-round, all clubs must use the entire five minutes before announcing their selections, but on Friday afternoon the draftees will be called out as soon as the clubs are ready.
The Demons have five positions to fill in the National Draft and one available selection in the Rookie Draft.
From 6pm on Friday evening, the Pre-Season and Rookie Draft will take place.
