MELBOURNE’S AFLW side will make its return to the home of football with its pre-season hit-out against Carlton moved to the MCG.
The official practice match will still take place on Saturday 13 August but has been relocated to the iconic venue.
The game is scheduled for 4.40pm (AEST) and is expected to finish at 6.20pm, before the Round 22 AFL match between Melbourne and Carlton begins at 7.25pm.
The curtain-raiser will give Melbourne fans double the opportunity to enjoy Demon footy at their spiritual home of the MCG, with ticket holders for the Round 22 AFL game able to access the practice match free of charge.
Melbourne CEO Gary Pert said it was an exciting occasion for the club.
“It’s fantastic that our women’s team get another opportunity to play at our spiritual home, the MCG,” Pert said.
“Many got the chance earlier this year, when we hosted our historic Preliminary Final, and it’s exciting that we now get to make more memories at the home of football.
“To kick off with a pre-season hit-out for our AFLW team, before rolling into a big clash against Carlton for our AFL team, makes for a great Saturday at the footy.
“We encourage all our members and supporters to get along and show their support for both teams. Let’s fill the stands with red and blue.”
Melbourne's AFLW members will be contacted by club in the lead up to the match for more information on ticketing.
Gates to the pre-season hit-out will open at 4.15pm.
