MELBOURNE vice-captain Jared Rivers is a 50/50 chance to play in Saturday’s clash against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

Rivers missed last Sunday’s 96-point win over Adelaide Crows at the MCG due to an ankle injury.

He will face a fitness test later in the week.

As already known, Melbourne will be without outstanding youngster Jack Grimes for the rest of the season with a foot injury.

He underwent surgery on Tuesday, after suffering a navicular stress fracture against the Crows.

Emerging ruckman Jake Spencer will also be out for the remainder of 2011, due to a knee injury.

Spender ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will be operated on in two weeks.

A timeframe for forward/ruckman Jack Fitzpatrick (ankle) is yet to be determined, after he underwent surgery on Tuesday.

He will have an assessment in the coming days to determine how long he will be on the sidelines.

2009 No.1 NAB AFL Draft pick Tom Scully (knee) remains three to four weeks on the sidelines and another youngster Sam Blease (concussion) faces a fitness test.
