It was a celebration of healthy minds and healthy bodies when 70 students from St Roch’s Primary School and Malvern Central Primary School were invited to spend the day at AAMI Park for a ‘one-of-a-kind’ health and wellness experience with players and staff from the Melbourne Football Club.
As part of the Club’s community program for schools around health and wellbeing, ‘Every Heart Beats True’, students were carefully selected to participate in activities, including a leadership session with Jim Plunkett – General Manager of People, Performance & Culture, together with members of Melbourne's AFL team.
The players ran a clinic for the kids, which was followed by some hilarious healthy eating games with prizes and a yoga session.
Andrew Waterson, Performance Coach, led a mindfulness and meditation session, and the kids demonstrated gratitude by creating their own card to give to a special person in their life to say ‘thank you’.
The day perfectly complemented and supported the work students are already undertaking at school as part of their health and wellbeing curriculums.
The smiles on the faces of students and teachers was indicative of just how successful the day was – many saying ‘they hope to return next year’.
We look forward to extending our invitation to more of our ‘Every Heart Beats True’ schools in the Cities of Casey, Stonnington, Boroondara and Glen Eira in 2020.
Details for how to ‘let your school’s heart beat true’ and register for the program will be sent to schools, and posted on our website in the new year.
Alternatively, you can email olivia.toms@melbournefc.com.au to register your interest in joining the program in 2020 – we’d love to have you on board!
