SUNDAY marked a memorable day in Tom McDonald’s career.

The 29-year-old became the 26th player to reach 200 games within the Melbourne Football Club history, celebrating the milestone with a win alongside teammates and family.

“I’ve been pretty lucky, I’ve won all my milestone games,” McDonald told Melbourne Media.

“It’s nice to have the win [and] the boys played really well.

“Being able to celebrate it and to get to see my friends and family was just really special, so it was a really good day.”

McDonald started the day with an unforgettable moment, running out on to the MCG with his children, Bella and Leo, by his side.

Adding to the memorable day, Bella then joined McDonald during the team song, a unique opportunity to celebrate the milestone and win with his daughter.

“Having the kids there to run out on the ground [with me], that’s the best part about it,” McDonald said.

“To celebrate with them and get them involved, it’s the sort of thing that in 20 years, we’ll see the photos and it’ll be really special.”

Throughout the duration of his 12-year career, McDonald has enjoyed a number of highlights in the red and blue, most recently being a part of the club’s drought-breaking premiership side.

And while the premiership was a key memory throughout his time at the club, McDonald explained that his biggest reflections haven’t been revisiting his career highlights, but rather looking back at the times the club faced adversity.

“I’ve had a bit of a think about it this week, because a lot of people have been asking what it was like in the early day,” McDonald said.

“It’s probably been more about looking back at the lowlights, but that’s all been part of the journey and why I’m really happy with the way it’s gone.

“I’ve seen all sides of footy, the good and the bad and I think that’s actually taught me a lot of lessons along the way.

“I wouldn’t have changed it.”
