IT HASN’T taken long for Oskar Baker to become a cult hero in the red and blue.
The youngster is a beloved figure at the club, and on Saturday afternoon, he finally experienced his first win at AFL level.
“It’s an awesome feeling,” Baker told Melbourne Media post-game.
“A lot of emotion, a lot of relief, excitement - I’m just glad we got the win.
“It was a great performance by the boys and I guess having our backs against the wall, it was really good this week just to reset, put some new things in place, and just get back to playing the Melbourne way which is contested game.
“I think we did that today and got rewarded by the win.”
Baker has now played five senior games of footy and is continuing to improve with every second he spends on the field.
“I think I’m growing every game I play and I feel a lot more confident,” he said.
“I’m just taking it game by game and that’s helping my development and hopefully going forward I can cement that wing role and celebrate a lot more wins with the boys.”
The crowd roars every time the 21-year-old runs down the wing and he has enjoyed every second of his time on the main stage.
“It’s a cool feeling,” Baker said.
“Obviously it’s a dream come true playing on the MCG, it’s always a childhood dream, and there’s no better feeling than the feeling I just experienced.
“Getting the win in front of a home crowd and being able to get the Gatorade shower is an awesome feeling and I’ll remember it for a long time.”
