MELBOURNE created history at 11.34am on Tuesday, when it signed up its 33,359th member for 2011 - breaking its previous record of 33,358, set in 2010.
This is a significant milestone for the club, as it strives for 40,000 members this year.
This is the fourth consecutive year Melbourne has broken its membership record and it is still growing.

Members are the heart and soul of Melbourne and will play a vital role in 2011 and beyond.
Every membership counts and for this record to be broken before round three is outstanding.
In breaking this record, Melbourne sits 5,400 members ahead of where it was at the same time in 2010. This equates to a 19 per cent growth at this stage of the season.
The big growth area this year has been in the club’s premium reserved seating: the Legends memberships (which sold out prior to round one), Trident and Redlegs membership categories, as well as Demon Seats membership category.
As the club continues its push towards 40,000 members - and fills up its reserved seating bays - it expects to see further growth in our Red and Blue membership category.
Melbourne has 5,688 new members this year, which is already on par with the total number of new members who joined last season.
However, there are still more than 6,000 members from 2010 that are yet to renew for 2011.
The club is aiming for 40,000 members for this season and it needs as many as possible back on board this season.
Melbourne thanks all 2011 members for joining up this year and looks forward to many more joining as the season continues.
The club looks forward to being able to announce further milestones this season.
