MELBOURNE will face the Brisbane Lions in its Preliminary Final on Saturday 2 April.

Thanks to a top-two finish to the home-and-away season, the Demons secured their spot in the Preliminary Final in a Round 10 win over Carlton on Saturday 12 March.

Melbourne was awaiting confirmation on its opposition, which was set to be determined by the winner of the Qualifying Final A, a battle between Brisbane and Collingwood.

The Demons were originally scheduled to host the final last weekend, but due to COVID-related complications, the Qualifying Final A was postponed until Sunday 27 March.

Brisbane defeated Collingwood by 50 points and with an opponent now locked in, the Demons can begin preparing for their history-making Preliminary Final at the MCG.

The AFL announced on the Thursday that the final would be the first game played at the home of football since the league’s inception in 2017, a ground-breaking step in the competition’s history.

All 2022 NAB AFLW Preliminary Finals will be free entry for football fans, thanks to Telstra. Fans will still need to redeem tickets via Ticketek, with tickets available from Monday 28 March at 2pm for AFLW members and 4pm for general public.

Melbourne’s AFL side will face Essendon at the MCG on the eve of the final, with the club encouraging its fans to head to both games and enjoy a weekend of Demons footy.
