JACK Viney says Melbourne’s final round win over Greater Western Sydney at Etihad Stadium on Sunday will give the team a massive boost entering pre-season.
Speaking post-match, Viney said it was a vastly different feeling to this time last year.
“I remember last year we finished really poorly … and it was really flattening coming into the off-season and pre-season, so it’s fantastic for the club to build a bit of momentum in the off-season and pre-season,” he told Dee TV.
“There is no doubt in mind that we’re on the right track and we’ll get there sooner rather than later.”
Viney said Melbourne’s 26-point win was a “terrific” effort, as the team managed to produce four consistent quarters.
“Over the last month or so, we haven’t been playing our best footy after some slow starts. We started really well and we maintained that,” he said.
“To the boys’ credit, we were playing some exciting footy … and it was a really good result in the end.”
Viney said he had been really happy with his form since he returned from a fractured fibula earlier in the season.
“I’m really proud of myself and the way that I came on this season and I was able to have a few good games towards the end of the season as well,” he said.
“It’s been a good year, which we can build on.”
