MELBOURNE will look to play its best available team on Saturday, when it plays its first JLT Community Series match against North Melbourne in Hobart on Saturday afternoon.
Of the 30-man squad, revealed on Thursday afternoon, Melbourne has named boom recruit Jake Lever and former Fremantle player Harley Balic.
Bayley Fritsch, who has impressed coaches on the track, will also look wear the Melbourne guernsey for the first time. The livewire forward was involved in the club's AFLX team last week, which saw the Demons win all three matches and the Melbourne-based tournament.
Jack Viney is a notable omission with the co-captain still recovering from foot surgery, undergone last year. Simon Goodwin, on Wednesday, insisted Viney would be right for the start of the season proper.
"He's on track for round one. We're really confident in Jack - he's nearly back with the main group. He's got another month to get himself ready," he said.
Midfielder Dom Tyson is also unavailable through injury.
"He had a little bit of a niggle. He won't play this week, but he'll definitely be available for JLT [round] two," Goodwin said.
The final list will be reduced to a 24-man team 90 minutes prior to the match.
