MELBOURNE leadership group member Brad Green has urged teammate Colin Sylvia to use Sunday’s best-on-ground 37-disposal and four-goal performance as a launch pad for the rest of his career.

Green had "no doubt" Sylvia's effort against Hawthorn on Sunday was the best of his 78 AFL matches.

"Col's a kid who's been around for a long time," Green told melbournefc.com.au.

"We needed him to show something this year - we see a lot of potential in him.

"But potential only lasts for so long, and we need him to start producing consistent performances. Hopefully that's the start of it.

"He was in everything. He was in the midfield, across half-forward and he kicked his goals – you can't ask for much more."

Green is hopeful Sylvia will taken his game to another level.

"Hopefully it does, but sometimes (a performance like) that can get them into a comfort zone," he said.

"They can then think: 'Phew, I played alright and now I can relax for the next couple of weeks'.

"But hopefully, he can turn those consistent performances in, week-in-week-out, like the Col Sylvia that we see at training."
