ATTENDING the Pink Lady Launch at the MCG was just a day out for some but for Kylie Jones, it was so much more.
As she listened to guest speakers, bought raffle tickets and ate her breakfast, she couldn’t help but continually keep in mind her mum, Lynette, who was in hospital battling cancer.
Whether it was fate or just good luck, Kylie won a pink Sherrin and took the opportunity to get Paul Roos to sign it before gifting it to her mum.
“Our family has always loved Roosy so I didn’t want to miss the chance to meet him. He was great and gave me a big hug and was more than happy to sign the footy,” Kylie said.
Following the event, Kylie emailed the Club to express her appreciation for Roos’ time and explained how the signed football had lifted Lynette’s spirits. Upon receiving this feedback, Roos promptly got Lynette’s phone number to give her a call and pass on his well wishes.
“I just kept thinking wow, this is amazing,” Kylie told melbournefc.com.au
“Mum was so happy and felt so special and loved. When the family came to visit that afternoon, we told them Roosy had called and none of them believed us! I’m so grateful to the Melbourne Football Club and Roosy for putting themselves out there and making my Mum’s day.”
Less than a week after speaking to Roos, Lynette lost her courageous battle with cancer. In honour of Lynette, Kylie will stand on the MCG on May 10 alongside 15,000 people to proudly represent her mum in the Field of Women.
“There will be a mix of emotions at the Field of Women. I’m so proud to be out there representing Mum but it will also be a really emotional experience. My husband, brother and dad will also be joining me.”
