The Demons will return to the MCG on twelve occasions throughout the 2022 home and away season, following the AFL’s announcement today of the 2022 fixture.
After two years of covid-interrupted football in Victoria, Melbourne members and supporters will be treated to an exciting opening nine rounds of the season, with the Demons to play at the MCG on six occasions throughout that period.
The Demons will return to the hallowed MCG turf for the season opener and grand final rematch against the Western Bulldogs in Round 1, before returning in Round 3 to take on Essendon and later facing Richmond and Hawthorn, in Rounds 6 and 7 respectively.
Melbourne CEO Gary Pert said the club was incredibly excited to return home once again to the MCG in 2022.
“With blockbuster home matches in Round 1 against the Bulldogs, Round 3 versus the Bombers, Round 7 against Hawthorn and the traditional Anzac Eve and Queen’s Birthday clashes back at the MCG, we are really pleased with the opportunities the fixture provides all our supporters around the country.
“In addition, our travel schedule, will allow a large number of our interstate members and supporters to get along to the football and see the Demons in action in their home states.
“There is no doubt we are expecting a huge show of support from the red and blue family following a successful 2021 season, and I encourage everyone to show their support in Round 1 and pack the MCG out to kickstart our 2022 campaign.”
