In 2020, Sparrow produced five consecutive games in the senior side, before a collarbone injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He looked to improve upon this and in 2021, the 21-year-old hit his stride, with an impressive pre-season earning him a spot in the Round 1 team.
Sparrow went on to be named in the side for 21 games throughout the year. On six of those occasions he was the unused medical sub, but each time the midfielder got the opportunity to take to the ground, he made sure to make the most of his time. He has the ability to be an impressive contested midfielder, while also demonstrating strength in defence (averaging 16.9 pressure acts) and up forward (kicking seven goals). The result of Sparrow's year of hard work came in Melbourne's Qualifying Final when he put up one of his best career displays collecting 21 disposals, 22 pressure acts, six score involvements and one goal.
