Season Overview:
Following a solid year in 2020, kicking 19 goals over 13 appearances, Weideman unfortunately had a delayed start to the 2021 season. The key forward suffered a stress fracture in his leg which saw him sidelined for nearly eight weeks.
The 24-year-old made a return to play in the VFL, named in Casey’s Round 1 game against Box Hill. Making up for lost time, Weideman booted a whopping seven goals and went on to kick another seven goals over two games in the VFL. He made his first senior appearance for 2021 in Round 9, managing another four games within the team throughout the year.
Despite being unable to cement a spot in Melbourne’s AFL side, Weideman continued to put in the hard work and proved his worth with consecutive displays in the VFL. He kicked 21 goals over just six appearances in the Casey side, putting him 10th on the goal-tally leaderboard for the league.
Remaining at the forefront of players pushing for senior selection, Weideman’s confidence up forward earned him a new two-year deal with the club, with List Manager Tim Lamb "confident that his best football was ahead of him.”
