MELBOURNE midfielder Nathan Jones says Sunday’s win over the Sydney Swans was the consistent effort the Demons have been searching for all season.

The Demons thrashed the Swans by 73 points, and Jones said there were plenty of reasons for the big win.

“I’d have to say yesterday’s performance was what we’ve been looking for all year. Some real consistency, and I think over the four quarters there were some real promising signs for what’s ahead in the future. The four-quarter effort is the most pleasing thing,” he said.

Jones was one of 13 goalkickers for the Demons, booting two as an attacking on-baller.

“I guess I’ve played a few different roles in the last month. To get on the scoreboard, I love kicking a goal, and that first quarter was really exciting. To come out and kick seven or eight straight and for me to get on the scoreboard was really exciting.

"Yesterday's performance was what we were looking for all year."

Jones said Melbourne had identified slow starts as an area of weakness, and the Demons were pleased to have burst out of the blocks with an eight-goal first term, including one in the opening 20 seconds to Lynden Dunn.

"It's been a real focus for the last five weeks, because it's been a deficiency in our game. We haven't been able to start games on a real high level, and yesterday we really wanted to get back to that,” he said.

The Demons will be looking to take their winning form into this week’s clash with the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.

The Lions have struggled over the past couple of months, and while the Demons have already knocked them off once this year in round five, Jones said he would not take them lightly.

"We've only won one game on the road in a fair while. They've got some real star players, with [Brendan] Fevola and [Jonathan] Brown and [Simon] Black and [Luke] Power in the midfield,” he said.

"They were going really well at that stage, and we can't underestimate them.

"They've got so many good players, and we're playing them at their home ground and with all of the variables and with us travelling.”
