MELBOURNE has selected Josh Wagner, from Aspley in Queensland, with its first pick (No.6) in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
The 21-year-old is a 187cm rebounding defender/midfielder. A left-footer, Wagner possesses good endurance and is a smart, tough footballer.
In 2011-12, Wagner played for Queensland in the NAB AFL under 18 championships and has since become a fine player for Aspley.
He played in the NEAFL state team in 2015 and was named in this year’s NEAFL team of the year.
Wagner comes from a strong football background, with his father Scott and grandfather Gary greats of Queensland football.
His younger brother Corey Wagner was drafted by North Melbourne earlier in the week.
