ANGUS Brayshaw says Melbourne’s outstanding 32-point win over last year’s finalist Richmond at the MCG on Friday night capped off “a big day for the footy club”.
Speaking to Dee TV post-match, Brayshaw said the team had plenty to play for, given the occasion of playing on Anzac Day eve. It also meant plenty to Brayshaw, given his older brother is in the Australian army.
“We really wanted to come out and play well, respecting the Anzacs and we really wanted to play well at home,” he said.
“We came out and knew what we had to do, structure wise and playing our role – it just came down to us playing our brand for 120 minutes in the game and we got the job done, which is incredible.
“It’s such a good win.”
Brayshaw, who impressed yet again in just his fourth AFL match, said his team’s contested focus and ability to trust the pre-season that it undertook were important elements in the win.
“It shows that our style and our brand of footy stands up for 120 minutes of the game, so it gives us a little bit of confidence that in any conditions, anywhere and anytime, we’re able to compete,” he said.
“I just try and play my role for the team and if everyone plays their role, then we get wins, so it’s good fun.”
