YOUNG-gun midfielder Dom Tyson says Melbourne’s pre-season camp is pushing the players out of their comfort zone.

Speaking on day four of the club’s trip to Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, Tyson said Melbourne’s training session on Thursday was a genuine challenge in the heat.
“It was pretty testing up here today (Thursday). The first couple of days, we had a little bit of cloud cover, but today we could feel the sun,” he told Dee TV.
“There was a bit of running involved and a fair bit of skills. It was good to nut it out and sort out a few things that we could do away from Gosch’s Paddock.”
Tyson said backing up the work load was one of the biggest challenges of the camp so far.
“We’ve had a couple of testing training sessions so far, so [you’ve got to] make sure you see the physios and jump around to the beach around the corner [from where we’re staying].
“We’ve got five main sessions in 10 days and we’ve got a bit of running and beach sessions and boxing between those. We’ve also had weights, so I reckon we’ll come back pretty tired at the end of the camp.”
Tyson said there had also been several meetings and opportunities to build relationships on the camp, which had been beneficial.
“We’ve been able to add things to our game plan and get to know each other a bit better. We’re eating dinner together in small groups and cooking together, so [they’ve] thrown in a few more challenges that you wouldn’t get in Melbourne,” he said.
“It gets you out of your comfort zone and talking to more boys on a bit of a personal level, which is good. It allows you to build better relationships with the players, coaches and the staff members.
“It’s pretty good so far.”
As for the highlight so far, Tyson said Jack Viney’s cooking skills were pretty good.
“I’m rooming with Jack Viney and he cooked a very nice steak last night. We didn’t have a barbeque and that was one of the challenges, but he put it on the pan and cooked a beautiful medium-rare steak. It went down well,” he said.
