ELITE performance manager Dave Misson says Melbourne’s pre-season camp at Maroochydore is already starting to achieve what the club wanted.

Misson said training volume, resilience training and bonding were all areas they wanted to get out of the camp – and that was all taking place in a positive fashion.

“The [players are] having to get up [early] for training sessions day after day after day, so they’re building resilience,” he told Dee TV.

“We’re also trying to keep quality in the training session, so day three in, we’re pretty pleased.

“We’re staying in a nice place and the boys are being exposed to having [to prepare] their own meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Misson said day three was “a bit of a lighter day” after some solid work on the first two days.

“We did some craft at the ground in the morning and that rolled into some upper body weights and then some physio stuff back at the ground,” he said.

“It’s a different gym, so [the players] were exposed to different sets of machines and therefore different exercises, which was good.

“The [players] pulled up well [from a big session on day two]. It was already planned to have a lighter day today (Wednesday), because we’re got a big three days leading into the weekend, so we’re looking forward to it.”

Misson said the coaches also got plenty out of their ‘craft’ session with the players.

“[Craft] is a chance for the coaches to spend a bit of time talking through some of the more structured elements of the game plan, without getting run into their legs and the normal demands of a main training session,” he said.

“The emphasis is really on listening to what the structures are and [getting] them down pat, without trying to practice them at full pace.”
