CASEY has opened its season with a convincing defeat at the hands of the Box Hill Hawks, with a five goal jump start separating last year's finals sides from the outset at Casey Fields.

A strong defensive performance from Demon defender Adam Tomlinson (24 disposals) wasn't enough to stem the scoring flow, as Box Hill dominated from the outset and led at the first change by 27 points.

Despite the early setbacks, the Demons began to find their footing, with Mitch White leading the charge in the midfield.

Taj Woewodin's defensive efforts were commendable alongside the aforementioned Tomlinson, while Paddy Cross provided a much-needed boost with a fantastic crumbing goal.

The second quarter saw both teams battling it out for supremacy, with missed opportunities on both ends. Box Hill managed to extend their lead, but the game turned into a scrappy affair with play predominantly confined to the half-back lines.

Josh Schache and newcomer Caleb Lewis injected some much-needed momentum for the Demons, narrowing the margin to a more manageable 22 points at halftime.

Former Collingwood VFL Captain Campbell Hustwaite showcased his skills, playing a pivotal role in Casey's resurgence.

Despite a determined effort from the Demons, a few costly errors allowed Box Hill to capitalise and stretch their lead in the third quarter.

Bailey Laurie's impressive goal provided a bright moment for Casey, but Box Hill maintained their dominance, building a formidable 46-point lead heading into the final quarter.

With pride on the line, the Demons rallied in the final quarter, refusing to go down without a fight.

Goals from Roan Steele and Campbell Hustwaite injected some much-needed energy into the team. However, Box Hill's solid performance proved too much to overcome as the final siren sounded.
